Organic production: We boost our sustainable offer for clients all around the world

By obtaining a new certification, as of this year, we have started trading organic natural ingredients from the United States, Canada and the European Union.

In order to meet the demands and needs of consumers who are ever more interested in knowing the origin of our foods and beverages, at San Miguel we have seals and certifications that attest our responsible, safe and sustainable production.

During 2021, we took on a new challenge: obtaining the USDA–NOP certification (U.S. Department of Agriculture) for our industrial process, in order to have natural ingredients with organic certified raw materials (oils, juice, pulp and dehydrated lemon peel). The study and the protocol implementation took several months until we were awarded the UDS - NOP organic certification in August, 2021.

"A year later we doubled the bet to obtain the AR-UE organic certification, auditing both protocols together in August, 2022, and obtaining the certifications for the industrial process. Said protocols also authorise us to be a company that trades l lemon-based organic natural ingredients", says Eugenia López Buriek, San Miguel Global Quality Manager.

This new scenario has enabled San Miguel to boost fruit development with organic certifications in local primary production, in order to supply the annual amount of grinding and offer this type of products to our clients. At present, the biggest demand for fruit and its organic derivatives is focused in juice clients in Canada, the United States and the European Union.

San Miguel works following the best market standards and good practices validated based on different certifications for the company's productive processes and products. Within this framework, 100% of our farms hold the GLOBAL G.A.P. certification, an internationally recognised standard for agricultural production whose goal is to obtain sustainable production, capable of benefiting producers, retailers and consumers. This seal, besides guaranteeing the food traceability and safety, is also related to the health, safety and well-being of the workers involved in the production chain.

"Certainly, our major partners in the development of ongoing improvement are our collaborators, who carry out the daily work, and our clients, who, through visits, audits and an open communication channel, raise the bar for us and help us continue growing", concludes Eugenia.
